History
The idea of a church was conceived in 1912, when Sister Armand (Mandy) Malone and her son John (Grice) Duckett opened School in a schoolhouse. Sister Malone invited her dear friend, the late Mrs. J.E. Weaver, a member of St Paul Methodist Church, to help them conduct the sessions. Sunday school was held from three p.m. to five p.m. and night services from nine to twelve. They obtained the services of various preachers for their Sunday night services. They held prayer services each Wednesday night. Oftentimes only, the three of them were present. The area was 2600 W. 10th, Texarkana, Texas.
After a time, Aunt Dinah, mother of Sister Malone joined in service with them. Others begin attending. On July 28, 1913, Rev. B.H. Hughley officially organized the Mount Orange Missionary Baptist Church. Other laborers who joined were Bro and Sister Gus Butler, and Bro. Matt Starling.
Other Pastors: Rev. D. Minor, Rev. W.M. Sexton, Rev. J.A. Johnson, Rev. W.M. Woods.
It is not often that a minister served during the constructions of two houses of worship. Between the years of 1947 - 1972, Rev Stuckey has led his flock in the construction of two houses of worship. He rebuilt Mt. Orange in 1952 and in 1972. In July 2005, Rev Leslie Brembry was elected as the seventh pastor of the Mt. Orange Baptist Church
In January 2019, Bishop Johnny Riley was elected as the 8th pastor of Mt Orange Baptist Church.
